As we follow the Circle of Fragmented Glass in this Candela Obscura Podcast, our story unfolds in the atmospheric city of Cascadia. Nestled just north of Newfaire, beyond the towering Bridleborne Mountains, Cascadia was once a bustling hub of gold, trade, and adventurers. But like many cities, the Great War took its toll, leaving Cascadia stagnant for years. Now, with the war behind it, the city’s industry is slowly waking up again, reigniting the potential it once had.

A City Cut Off from the World

Cascadia is both connected to and isolated from the Fairelands. A single train line links it to Newfaire, but the journey isn’t for the faint of heart—Scarlet Runners and other dangers lurk along the tracks, making travel risky. The Bridleborne Mountains act as a physical and symbolic barrier, leaving Cascadia’s few Candela Obscura chapter houses isolated, struggling to maintain their presence.

Gothic Splendor

Visually, Cascadia is stunning. Its architecture blends gothic art-deco designs with modern touches from Newfaire. The buildings are adorned with gold accents, reminders of the city’s once-thriving gold rush. Today, those grand spires stand alongside newer structures, their shadows stretching over the Columhood River that cuts through the heart of the city. The river flows to the northeast, connecting Cascadia to the ocean and keeping trade alive.

Stories Yet to be Told

Cascadia’s misty mountains, winding rivers, and gothic beauty are inspired by the Pacific Northwest, mixed with the charm of cities like Florence and San Francisco. Much like those places, Cascadia is rich with history, industry, and deep connections to it’s people, past and present. The city is full of secrets, waiting for anyone brave enough to uncover them.
